Term 4 - Issue 1
Principals Report
Welcome to Term 4, and over the first 3 weeks we have been very busy already. Term 4 is the busiest term of the school year with lots of events on across our school, culminating in the celebration of our Year 6 Leavers.
As always please keep an eye on our School Calendar, Seesaw and Facebook for dates and information about events coming up this term. If you need any further information, please contact your child’s teacher or our office.
Swimming Carnival – Year 3 to Year 6
I would like to say congratulations to all our students from Year 3 to Year 6 who attended our swimming carnival on Tuesday 22nd October at Oatlands Pool. I can honestly say this is one of the most fun, relaxed and enjoyable carnivals I have been to in the past 18 years of being in education. Our kids demonstrated all their School Values, which was evident by the participation level and encouragement they gave each other throughout the day.
We all should be very proud of our kids at our school, they are an amazing bunch of kids!
Class Structures 2025
Next year our class structures are going to look a little bit different. As we have already announced we have 2 kinder classes in 2025 both with Miss Matthews and our Education Support Specialist (ESS) Kristy Abbott will be in there on Wednesdays for the combined day. Below are our class structures for 2025, you will notice that there are a few changes in terms of what year levels teachers will be taking.
- Kinder Quolls (Monday Tuesday and Wednesday) – Chelsea Matthews
- Kinder Roos (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) – Chelsea Matthews
- Prep – Rachel Shephard
- 1/2 - Amrita Sarker
- 1/2 – Oliver Balzer
- 3/4 – Phoebe Williams
- 4/5 – Frazer Wood
- 5/6 – Laura Stokes
Class Placements
We have recently finished our class placements and aim to get these out to students and families by mid-November. This is extremely early compared to other schools as we believe as a school that our kids deserve a decent transition time to get to know their new teachers. This time allows our teachers to get to know the kids a bit before we start the new school year and ensure any nerves are calmed.
End of Year Assessments
Throughout each school year we do a range of screening tests to see where our kids are up to where there learning and where their next steps are. Term 4 is a bit different as we do some other tests to see how much growth our students have done with their learning.
Testing goes for about 3-week period for all our kids in Prep to Year 6. During this time, we test the following:
- Work Knowledge (Phonics etc)
- Spelling
- Reading Comprehension
- Fluency
- Mathematics
End of Year Reporting (Ratings and Evidence of Learning)
Our end of year reports will be going home to families on Thursday 12th December for our students from Prep to Year 6 and Kinder Evidence of Learning will be sent home the following week.
The end of year reports will include:
- Ratings for English, Mathematics and Science - Prep to Year 6
- Rating for HASS (History and Study of Society) – Year 1 to Year 6
- Evidence of Learning for writing and science – Prep to Year 6
- Evidence of Learning for PE, Music and Art – Prep to Year 6

LiL with Miss Matthews
“Thank you to our LiL and Mini Movers families for another wonderful year of fun and learning!”
Music with Mr Griggs
As the school year is winding to a close, it is pleasing to note the emergence of some really musical students.
Each Music class at Bagdad has at least one or two of these students, which helps other members of their class to play their own parts of the class song with them.
Over the years I have been at Bagdad, it is satisfying to see and hear music, has become entrenched amongst the students.
P.E with Mrs Arthur
Well done to all students who participated at our swimming carnival. It was great to see so many students having a go, showing courage and trying their best in each race. Not only did students showcase some amazing swimming styles but more importantly students should be proud of the way they showed sportsmanship and were so supportive of each other. The overall results were: 1st Chauncy 458, 2nd Cornelian 341 & 3rd Huntington 259. Congratulations to all those who swam! Thank you to our parent volunteers and Leeza for her amazing recording skills. The Interschool Swimming Carnival for selected students will be on Thursday 7th November.
Aussie of the Month
Congratulations to Charlie and Hayden who are this month's Aussie of the Month. Both Charlie and Hayden have shown great values and are kind and respectful members of our school.
2024 Yearbook Competition
It is almost time for us to receive our 2024 Bagdad Yearbook!
Before we do this, we are running a competition to design the cover. We are asking our wonderfully talented students to design the front and back covers.
The front cover will be designed by a Year 6 student with the back cover and inside covers designed by students from Kinder to Year 5.
We are looking for designs that show:
- Our school values of Growth, Courage, Responsibility, Respect and Connection
- Friendships
- What the school means to you and other people.
- Favourite or fun things about our school.
- Learning
Entries are due to the office by 2:55 pm on Monday the 18th of November and will be judged by Mr Novak, another member of staff and our fantastic school association.
Good luck and we can’t wait to see all the entries
