    Principals Report

    A big thank you!

I can honestly say that my time at Bagdad Primary school has absolutely flown by. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 6 weeks here and will miss the great community you have – even the possums and mice! All students consistently demonstrate the department values of growth, respect, connection, courage and responsibility and I have seen many examples of students doing their “Bagdad Best”. A big highlight for me was seeing the community spirit alive and well at the Mother’s Day breakfast. I am hoping that Mr Novak has enjoyed his well-earned break and I’m sure he has missed you all.

    Reporting and Parent Teacher

Teachers are busily finalising student Evidence of Learning and ratings to go into mid-year reports. The reports will include a rating on the 9 point scale for English, Maths and Science. Preps will not receive this rating until the end of year.

Students from Prep to grade 6 will receive an Evidence of Learning for English and Maths via Seesaw. An achievement standard template will accompany this for your reference.

Kinder students will also have an Evidence of Learning sent home via Seesaw. Parent teacher interviews will take place in week 9 for all students. Please use the following link to book your appointment https://bagdadps.schoolzineplus.com/view-session/3

    Cross Country

The annual cross country was a beautiful day where participation levels were high. It was good to see students having a go, pushing themselves outside their comfort zone and being generally pleased with themselves for completing the run. The Kinder students had an equally fun day on the Wednesday and did a great job for their first run. 31 students represented the school at the Interschool cross country at Bayview Secondary School today. We congratulate them for making the team and look forward to hearing how they went.

    National Simultaneous Story Event

All classes took part in the National Simultaneous Story event on Wednesday the 21st of May. All students enjoyed reading The Truck Cat and the activities that followed. The event is to promote the value of reading and literacy. Classes were able to share this experience with their Buddy classes. Thank you to Mrs Harback for organisation of this.

Moderation Day (Student Free Day) and King’s Birthday Holiday

A reminder that this Friday (6th June) is a Student Free Day where teachers will be engaging in some learning around the Reading Priority. There is also a public holiday on the Monday (9th June) to celebrate the King’s Birthday. This will be an opportunity for students to reset the batteries for the last few weeks of term.

    The Smith Family

The Smith Family are a national, independent charity organisation that operate in selected Australian schools. They are currently working with our grade 5/6 students but they also have scholarships available for students to assist with the increasing costs of education. If you would like more information please either click on the link below or contact the school office.

    Equine Therapy

This term selected students have been involved in Equine therapy at a local farm. Mr Lewinski and students have enjoyed getting to know the horses, walking them around, brushing and patting them. One student excitedly told me her favourite thing was getting the horses to do tricks. We are lucky to have this opportunity.

    SASS program

For the next few weeks, student from grade 3 – 6 will be participating in Consent and Relationship Education (CARE) through SASS. This program is aligned with National Curriculum requirements. Information was sent home last week on Seesaw however for further clarification, contact the coordinator on training@sass.org.au. Please also contact your child’s teacher or the school office with any concerns.

I wish you all an amazing remainder of 2025 and encourage all of the students to continue to do their Bagdad Best

    Kind Regards,

    Carla Brown

    Acting Principal

    Kinder with Miss Matthews

Kinder Quolls had a blast at their first Bush Kinder session. We enjoyed exploring the creek, hunting for frogs, and pretending to catch fish.

'Last week we celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime in our classroom. This year's book was 'The Truck Cat' by Deborah Frenkel. After reading the book we did a character description activity based on the book.'

    3/4 with Miss Williams

We have been having a lot of fun with our learning in 3/4 Williams so far this term.

A highlight was having pre-service teacher Ms Jones working with us for 4 weeks and teaching us a little of the Japanese language.

Students are also enjoying reading 'The BFG' by Roald Dahl as our novel study this term as we learn about narrative writing. We have been comparing characters, describing characters and settings using adjectives, writing a diary entry from a character's perspective and cannot wait to finish reading the novel and begin writing our own narratives.

    Music with Mr Wood

So far this term in music, students have been learning new pieces on xylophones, marimbas, ukuleles and piano. Our younger students have been doing lots of singing, dancing and learning how to play the xylophones. 1/2’s are very excited to have been able to perform their class song in assembly.
